System Requirements
Cloud Hosted
The requirements when TRX is hosted in the Cloud are significantly lower and less complex. The computer that you are connecting from needs to have the following.
- Remote Desktop Connection 6.0 or later. (Download for Server 2003 and Windows XP can be found here.
- Connection to the Internet
- Any Windows OS that supports Remote Desktop Connection 6.0 (Windows XP SP3 and later). Mac users can use a virtual Windows environment to connect.
PortfolioCenter users that host their own data will need at least one Windows machine with the .NET 4 Framework installed. Here is a link to the .NET 4.0 Framework.
Hosted In-House
TRX is a two part application: A Desktop User Interface and a SQL Database. The requirements listed below are only what we recommended to ensure a robust user experience. TRX will run on systems that do not meet these requirements.
Your specific system requirements will depend upon many factors, including:
- Number of users (anyone in your office that will use the TRX application)
- Number of clients (the number of households you manage in your Portfolio Accounting System)
- Number of accounts (the number of accounts you manage in your Portfolio Accounting System)
- Amount of historical data (the number of trade lots, positions, and transactions you manage on a daily basis)
- Document and file storage
- System availability
- Infrastructure demands
It is recommended that you work with an IT professional familiar with RIA systems and your practice to best determine your specific needs.
Server:
TRX uses Microsoft SQL Server for database management. Generally, firms with ten or fewer users can take advantage of the free version of SQL Server Express. Firms requiring more processing power may find that they will need a more robust Microsoft SQL Server version. TRX requires SQL Server 2005 or later versions.
Additional Server requirements include:
- Processor: 2-Ghz or higher Pentium IV-compatible recommended.
- Memory: 4GB or more recommended.
- Hard Disk: Varies, dedicated 5GB recommended.
- Operating System: Only Microsoft-based OS are supported.
- All current .Net framework and Windows critical updates and applicable Service Packs applied.
A server system which is not dedicated to SQL Server, but hosts other applications, should exceed the recommendations in memory and processing capacity.
Workstations:
Workstations requirements include:
- Processor: 2-Ghz or higher Pentium IV-compatible recommended.
- Memory: 1 GB or more recommended.
- Monitor: Display resolution minimum of 1024 x 768.
- Operating System: Only Microsoft-based OS are supported.
- Additional Software: Microsoft Office version 2003, 2007
- .NET Framework 4.0 and Windows critical updates and applicable Service Packs applied.
